In this Puremix exclusive "Start to Finish" series, Matt Ross-Spang invites us into his newly launched studio, Southern Grooves Productions, to collaborate with the outstanding Nicki Bluhm and a remarkable band comprising some of Tennessee's finest musicians from Memphis and Nashville. Together, they breathe new life into a song idea conceived years ago, transforming it into a fully realized production that seamlessly weaves Memphis' rich musical heritage with modern techniques to craft a powerful song.

Starting with a song they began writing years ago, Matt, Nicki, and the band explain the origins and intention of the song while coming up with a plan of attack during pre-production.

Once the core tracks are recorded live off the floor, Matt calls his favorite string and horn sections to bring the arrangement to life with vibrant, textured layers before diving into the mix.

This "Start to Finish" series offers a unique opportunity to witness some of the most sought-after musicians in the U.S. as they craft a song from its inception to final production, celebrating Memphis' rich musical history while incorporating modern techniques to deliver a masterfully crafted song.
