Fab Dupont produced a track from scratch in about two hours for a Puremix production video. Now he mixes it in two episodes. He works in the Inspiration Room at Flux Studios NYC on a small, fully digital rig: a laptop, an Apollo x6 and Kii Seven speakers. He starts in Ableton Live and finishes there too.
You'll see the whole process in real time, nothing cut out. Fab prepares and organizes the session, sets up the mix bus with metering and a reference, then shapes the drums and fixes the low-end conflicts. He builds depth with room and plate reverbs, widens the synths and finishes the mix bus with compression, clipping and limiting. He uses tools like Process.Audio Decibel, Sugar, Ripple and Spicerack, Acustica Cream 3, FabFilter Pro-Q 4, UADx Fatso and Ocean Way Studios, and the EMT 140. Along the way he explains why he makes each decision, so you can use the same thinking in your own mixes. The stems and the session are available so you can follow along.
