Gearfest 2012 - Trailer
w/ Fab Dupont, Mike Wells
Gearfest 2012
2 h 45 min • 2012
Once again, the pureMix team performed on the Sweetwater Gearfest theater stage. Fab and Ben recorded The Liza Colby Sound, live, no safety net, showing how to place microphones, use preamps and process audio in real time while recording it.
This is Part 1 of this seminar, dealing with the setup and kick drum recording.
The band was tracked with a full line of Lauten Audio (Atlantis, Clarion) and Blue (Mouse, Dragonflies, Stage 2 Bottle) microphones, UAD Apollo preamps and plugins, Manley (TNT Cool & Hot Pre, Dual Mono Pre) preamps, Dangerous Bax Eq, monitored through a Dangerous D-box and a pair of Focal Twins 6 and CMS Sub speakers.

I didn't get why the vocals are tracked agaim when the band leaves... maybe the first vocal recording was a live guide for the musicians? in that case, why was it recorded?

I had the impression that reverb was before delay or echo. Any reason for this? No predelay on reverb?

Puremix is great - I learn so much each time I get a chance to log in. Head and shoulders above the competition. Thanks for a quality product.

I suppose every setting had to be exagerated in order to let audience hear the differences in this non critical listening space. Compressing it in paralell is right way to go in maintaining that initial vibe in mix.

The paralell compression chrushed all the stuff. I agree...educational purpose.
